Aymrev Erkroz Prevre / Black Seas of Infinity : Split

coverRavenheart Productions: 2006
Format: Cassette

A very interesting split by two equally interesting projects. The tape begins with “Ingression”, a short track from Black Seas OF Infinity. A deep, cavernous sound is coupled with a spoken word sample (Crowley, perhaps?) and what I’d describe as someone occasionally throwing a typewriter down a flight of stairs. Disturbing, to say the least. I’ve been a fan of Mr. Heru’s since the release of his “Within Daathian Chasms” cassette. With every release he continues to impress this humble reviewer.

Next up are two offerings from the mad Frenchman, Meldhkwis under the Aymrev Erkroz Prevre moniker. You may also know him from one of his other projects, Dapnom of Etmenns Derokwis. All are amazing and worth seeking out. Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about his releases. “Kamaruba” ends Side A with a 15 minute plus journey into the abyss. Side B kicks off with “Bardo”, warm, static rumblings are punctuated by waves of treble noise and monastery chimes. Not a comfortable few minutes, but I doubt it’s meant to be.

Things come full-circle with BSOI ending the tape with “As the Pythoness Strokes the Lovely Sword”. The dynamic of the split seems to be one long and one short track from each. This is BSOI’s extended track and completely blows me away. These could be the last sounds you’d hear in a drowning U-Boat.

If you’re a fan of ritual ambient madness, this one is definitely worth seeking out.
